Provence the sunshine country with mountains in the north and the Côte d'Azur to the South. A varied terrain mainly covered in forests, vineyards and olive groves which is steeped in history and culture. It is divided into several departements (counties). Provence has a very good infrastructure with the nearest airports being Nice & Toulon. A high speed train service (incl. car train to St Raphaël) connects it with the rest of France and Europe. The many towns and villages provide good shopping, schools and an excellent health service with many specialist doctors & hospitals. The Departement of the Var With 430km of sun drenched coastline including Fréjus, St Tropez & St Raphaël that will delight sun worshippers, scuba divers & sailors alike. Wonderful seafood, fine wine & the sparkling med, all within easy reach, even if you live inland. Thanks to a fine road system linking all towns. Var inland is rich with vineyards & olive groves, spectacular lavender plantations & dazzling fields of sunflowers. Medieval towns, provincial markets. This region is well situated between the mountains and the sea. The Haut (high) Var with its hilltop villages, vast forests and breathtaking gorges, wild herbs growing abundantly filling the air with delightful fragrances, is a wonderful playground for walkers climbers, kayakers and in winter skiers and snow sport enthusiasts too. |
